Hole in the Wall – BBC Filming

Published by Billy under Rambling

Right, first off, I don’t have any pictures as BBC wouldn’t let us take any :(

It was a great day out, sitting until your butt was sore, clapping till your hands were raw, etc…

Overall I thought the show was good, not as good as the Japanese version but certainly getting close. The biggest surprise for me was the fact that they have…the full body silver Lycra! I thought they’d have something more fashionable, but no, they’ve got the same outfit!

Anyway, just some basic information, the show is hosted by Dale Winton, with two captains…who I can’t remember. One was a cricket captain and one was a host on strictly come dancing, neither of which I’m particularly keen on.

So keep your eyes out for the show, its airing in September on BBC1 Saturday’s I believe. You might even see me! Though you wouldn’t know what I look like…

Ghost in the Shell (movie)

Published by ZeroCool42 under Anime Reviews

I feel it is time to reveal myself as mysterious tech person and grammar nazi here at starlight breaker! I am taking time out of my busy schedule of breaking things (4 computers in 3 days) to write about some of the anime I am watching currently.

The first of these (although not chronologically) is Ghost in the Shell. Now, for those of you more in the know, you will realise that this is an old film (circa 2001 I believe) but, I am fairly new to the anime scene, so I am primarily occupied in watching the classics that I missed…

Human Tetris

Published by Billy under Rambling

Anyone remember it? Human Tetris was a great show on Japanese TV and now, lucky UK viewers, its coming to the UK!

Its going by the name of Hole in the Wall, heres a short description:

From the makers of ‘The X Factor’ comes a brand new hilarious game show, Hole In The Wall.  The show, which originated in Japan, has fast become a worldwide hit, as celebrities try to make the shape of various “holes in a wall” and if they fail, they’ll get knocked into a swimming pool!

The show will be hosted by Dale Winton, with the two teams captained by Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton Du Beke and Darren Gough.

Over 10 million hits on You Tube have ensured that Hole in The Wall, or ‘Human Tetris’ as it is known on-line, has already made this the show that everyone is talking about and now you can be amongst the first in the UK to see it!  You can see the japanese show by watching youtube clips at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPFZl59_OZ4&feature=related

And guess who’s just got tickets to see two of the episodes whilst their being filmed? Oh yea…

Wordpress Updates – Do I hate them…

Published by Billy under Rambling

Just did another update, incase anyone noticed (Adam did) the site went down for a few hours whilst I tried to figure out what went wrong. Eventually (after a few hours of Star Trek…) I noticed I had a few failed uploads (in Filezilla). Uploaded them again and Bham!

Wordpress also seems to have chucked in a new security code in the wp-config.php file, but I doubt that was what caused the fail upgrade. Oh well, this is the third upgrade I’ve done, maybe I’ll be a bit more lucky next time…:)

EDIT: I’ve lost my little Icons on my write page, below is a screenshot so that you can see what I mean. Whilst its merely a nuisance I still want it fixed…

Ignore the right side, didn’t realise screenshots would capture my 2nd monitor….

Laser Etching Update

Published by Billy under Rambling

Right, got a response from the company in London. It comes at a fairly pricey £100 for a laptop, but it doesn’t matter what size, so I guess I’ll just have to find the biggest laptop ever!

Just joking.

Anyway, they want it in a AI (adobe illustrator, in case anyone was an idiot like me and searched for an AL file…) which has all been converted into vectors. Apparently a high resolution JPEG will do as well. Basically, once I’ve confirmed the purchase of my Macbook I’ll let you guys know, as well as ask for the canvas size, i.e. the area of the mac that can be safely etched. Then I’ll hold a competition (most likely on AS forums, although I might dig around on some Japanese forums as well)…then if all goes to plan I can get it etched by the end of August and have the coolest laptop around. :)

EDIT: Done! http://www.starlightbreaker.co.uk/?p=139

Macbook Laser Etching

Published by Billy under Rambling

Right, heres the deal. I go to university in October, I therefore, going with the crowd, have chosen to get a macbook. A macbook pro to be accurate, 17″.

Anyway, everyone seems to be getting their Macbook’s laser etched with some image, as an anti theft deterrent and, more to the point, to look…cool. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, take a look here.

Anyway, most of the firms are based in the USA, but after much trawling through data I’ve managed to locate a firm in London who might possibly do it. I’ve emailed them asking if they were willing and to quote me a price. I’d expect it to be £75 or something close to that region. So heres the plan, obviously I’m going to etch Nanoha onto my macbook :P .
However, seeing that I’m shit at drawing, designing, etc etc, I’ve decided if this goes ahead I’m going to host a competition, the winner will get his/her image etched onto my laptop, eternally blah de blah blah. I’m taking advantage of you fanatics :)
Let you know what’s happening as it progresses, look forward to it, hopefully by mid august I’ll have my laptop etched with the goddess on it.

EDIT: It has been done: http://www.starlightbreaker.co.uk/?p=139

Over the Future – Karen Girl’s (可憐Girl’s) limited edition CD

Published by Billy under Music

CD arrived 9AM this morning. However, due to me being lazy I didn’t wake up until 1PM. I debated over getting it delivered again on Thursday or picking it up today. I chose today…boy was that a bad decision.

First off I didn’t realise the distance I had to walk (having failed my driving test twice). Having got back home I checked it out on Google Maps – a distance of 4.4 miles. The annoying thing is that Google Maps gives it as 12 minutes by car, where as I spent just under 2 hours.

Site Down

Published by Billy under Website Updates

First of all let me offer my apologies to anyone who tried to access the site in the last 12 hours. We encountered an error and this time, it was not my fault! :P
Our MySql database packed in for some reason, but I’ve manage to recover all but the settings. I’ll upload the backed up images tomorrow morning, along with the sites theme. At least this has taught me to back up the website regularly :P , I’ll be backing up once a month at least now.

EDIT: Most functions restored, looking about to see if I’ve missed anything, feel free to give me a shout if you see something like a picture missing. And I emphasise again – it wasn’t my fault this time!

ZeroCool42’s edit: We had 2 ‘About’ pages… now we only have 1. All Hail me!

Clannad ~ After Story

Published by Billy under News

Just saw the promo for Clannad ~ After Story, only about 10 seconds long, but…

USHIO IS GOING TO BE IN IT!

Ushio is hands down the cutest character for this month, Tomoya is a bad father…I wish my daughter was cute like Ushio.

Wait.

That makes it sound like I’ve already got a daughter.

I wish that my child (who is going to be my daughter – keep going til I get a girl!) is as cute as Ushio.

Now I sound really perverted. Anyway, below is a 2.43MB file of the Promo, from AQS, Sprocket & TWH, who seem to be getting together to sub the series. You could just go to youtube or any other online video site to watch it, but since it’s only 2MB, why don’t you download it and watch it in high quality?
