Anyway, with the recent move outdoors (now that the Great Winter is now over for another year) we now have to carry our bosses a good 100m. With the old straw bosses it wasn’t that bad…give it a roll and your there. Whoever invented Danage Bosses didn’t consider mobility at all (or didn’t consider someone as lazy as me).

Anyway, for all you lazy archers out there, you must own a car (because walking is the ultimate time and energy consuming task there is). Well, my friend and I finally decided (against the advice of many archers in the club) that it is possible to move a Danage Boss by car.

So I’ve found my login details again, dusted off the outstanding comments and spam and found the “post a new post” button on wordpress. Oh, I also updated everything I could (which is much easier now it has a “press here to update” button).

So what can I write about? Nothing springs to mind, so I guess I’ll leave this empty for now? Great blog huh?

Unless you want to know about my year abroad details? I’ve just finished my application for my universities and selected Hitotsubashi University, Keio University and Kansai University as my first, second and third choice respectively.

Anyway, I know I’m flogging a dead horse at the moment, but until I have something to write about I’ll leave it here. Face it, my personal life is hardly interesting.

Anyway, onto my first post in what has got to have been 5 or 6 months. Sorry! Started university and joined a hell-load of clubs, which seems to suck up all my time. Congradulations to Neoraptox and Zerocool who are both also at their first choice university. A quick word just to say how great Birmingham university is, if your at that stage of considering universities, come check out Birmingham on a open day!

I’m currently studying BSc Economics and Japanese, the Japanese part of my course is amazing, both my teachers are the best teachers I’ve ever had. A shoutout to Fumi and Junko-sensei, should they be reading this. Only two years until I head off to Tokyo for a year! I aim to do a whole year of blogging for that year

Anyway, not sure where this blog will be heading for now, might try to get it back up and started, writing stuff on whim. Maybe I’ll try and get some writers in on this, kinda feel lonely all here by myself

Anyway, congratulations to everyone on Starlight Breaker, we’re all off to different universities this September.

Moving on, I received my Macbook Pro two days ago and it is beautiful. 17″ screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 is just fantastic to watch anime on – providing you can find versions at the same quality. Having some trouble adapting to all the new shortcuts and the lack of a right click, but thats all okay.

As for my laser etching, I am going into London next tuesday, thats the 2nd September 2008, in order to get my macbook etched. I still haven’t worked out a design so the people at the lab are going to help me out, so hopefully you’ll see my post with pictures next tuesday. I believe I will be one of the first to etch anime onto a laptop

Just thought I’d share that little bit of information with you…

In other news, the Olympics are on. Yay! I spent the whole of yesterday morning (and I mean morning!) watching badminton.

Anyway, don’t expect posts from me soon. Over the next few days, and possibly the next few weeks, I will be moping about my results.

It was a great day out, sitting until your butt was sore, clapping till your hands were raw, etc…

Overall I thought the show was good, not as good as the Japanese version but certainly getting close. The biggest surprise for me was the fact that they have…the full body silver Lycra! I thought they’d have something more fashionable, but no, they’ve got the same outfit!

Anyway, just some basic information, the show is hosted by Dale Winton, with two captains…who I can’t remember. One was a cricket captain and one was a host on strictly come dancing, neither of which I’m particularly keen on.

So keep your eyes out for the show, its airing in September on BBC1 Saturday’s I believe. You might even see me! Though you wouldn’t know what I look like…

I feel it is time to reveal myself as mysterious tech person and grammar nazi here at starlight breaker! I am taking time out of my busy schedule of breaking things (4 computers in 3 days) to write about some of the anime I am watching currently.

The first of these (although not chronologically) is Ghost in the Shell. Now, for those of you more in the know, you will realise that this is an old film (circa 2001 I believe) but, I am fairly new to the anime scene, so I am primarily occupied in watching the classics that I missed…

Right then, Ghost in the Shell is billed as a cyberpunk thriller, set in the future and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. After a very brief introduction which hints at some of the character development yet to come, we are thrown straight into the action, with a female cyborg assassinating someone who is assisting a rogue programmer to defect.

At this point, I feel duty bound to mention “Ghost in the Shell”’s attitude to nakedness. Essentially, there’s a fair amount of nudity in it. While one could argue that, the lack of inhibitions shown by the female protagonist is authentic to her cyborg character, it still means that there’s a naked woman onscreen for a fair amount of the time, and while I would like to believe that this is done merely for artistic purposes, I suspect there is a fanservice element to it. As such, this reviewer has taken pains to ensure that none of the screenshots contain such nudity.

Overall, I found the film to be fast-paced an action-packed, never slowing down for very long, and certainly rapid enough to prevent viewers from getting bored. Similarly, the plot twists and turns, and I found it impossible to predict where it would go next, keeping you on the edge of your seat, and creating more than a few surprises.

The art style is detailed, and though slightly dated now, still sucks the viewer into the centre of the action. This renders the depiction of the ‘cyber-world’ captivating, and yet still makes the real world environment realistic and believable.

The musical score to the movie is also intruiging, as it is in the style of traditional tribal music, and provides a wonderful audio backdrop to the film, and though it may sound like the contrast between the two different themes would be too great, but it has been beautifully integrated to great effect.

Not wanting to spoil the whole plot, but merely wishing to capture its essence, I will simply give a brief plot overview. Essentially, the mysterious government agency known only as “Section 9″ is pitted against the legendary and elusive master hacker “The Puppet Master”. However, when they track down the perpetrator behind the latest series of attacks, events take a turn for the unexpected…

Well, all I can say is that if that doesn’t make you want to watch it, then nothing will!
